Afghanistan – Is It Still Worth It? - According to a recent ABC News/Washington Post poll, 60% of Americans now believe that the war in Afghanistan (which has been going on for nearly 11 years) has not been worth fighting. 54% believe American troops should be withdrawn immediately, even if it means abandoning efforts to train Afghan forces to become self-sufficient. To further complicate matters, U.S. – Afghan relations reached a new low last week when President Hamid Karzai publicly flogged President Obama and referred to Americans as ‘demons’ who needed to ‘hasten their withdrawal’ from his country. Nearly 2,000 Americans have lost their lives in Afghanistan since 2001.

Alert: this next article is completely depraved and I’m disgusted that I must even bring it to your attention:
Jury Awards Couple $2.9 Million for ‘Wrongful Birth’ of Their Daughter - An Oregon jury awarded $2.9 million to Ariel and Deborah Levy for the ‘wrongful birth’ of their daughter, Kalanit, who was born in 2007 with Down syndrome. The mother testified at trial that, while she ‘loves her daughter dearly,’ she would have aborted her had doctors made her aware during pre-natal testing that the baby was going to be born with Down syndrome. The case stirred passionate debate all across the nation, as pro-life proponents dubbed the lawsuit the latest effort in a “eugenic search-and-destroy mission aimed at wiping people with Down syndrome off the face of the earth.” The fact that such a case can even make it into a courtroom provides a stark and hollow reminder of the devalued nature of life in modern American society. In contrast, Sarah Palin recently penned this touching article about her own ‘special-needs’ son, Trig. But conservatives are supposedly the ‘heartless’ ones…

Obama Administration Grants Permission to Indian Tribe to Kill Bald Eagles - In an unprecedented move, the Obama Administration last week issued permits to the Northern Arapaho Tribe in Wyoming to begin killing bald eagles ‘for religious purposes.’ The decision comes after the Native American tribe filed a federal lawsuit last year claiming that the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s refusals to issue such permits violated tribal members’ religious freedoms. So, for now at least, the Northern Arapaho Tribe is free to kill the living symbol of American freedom because their religion ‘calls’ for it. The Obama Administration, after all, has decreed it – you know, that same Obama Administration that refused to grant a waiver to Catholic organizations from the ObamaCare mandate that requires them to provide free contraceptives to their employees, even though such an act would violate their collective religious conscience? Yeah, that one…

Is the U.S. Headed for a Summer Gas Shortage? - Disturbing reports began to surface last week that, with the summer driving season fast approaching, gas prices are likely to spike even higher, and we could be looking at gas shortages, the likes of which have not been seen since the 1979 energy crisis. The main concern for market experts today, however, is not so much a shortage in oil supply as it is a shortage of refineries in the United States, particularly on the East Coast. While the U.S. Department of Energy warned that a shortfall in gasoline at the pump could develop as early as July, David Greely, an energy analyst at Goldman Sachs, provided this grim assessment: “There’s now going to be a question if we can get enough gasoline into the East Coast for summer.” Might be time to blow the dust off the old ten-speed and air up the tires…

Obama’s Fundraising Woes - In 2008, candidate Obama raised over $750 million, a fact which helped propel him to the presidency. Last April, the Obama re-election campaign let it be known that it intended to be the first campaign in history to raise over $1 billion in order to help ensure a second term for the President. However, as The Washington Post reported last week, the love affair between President Obama and high-dollar donors appears to be over. As of January 2012, Obama trailed GOP front-runner Mitt Romney in finding donors willing to give $2,000 or more – a shocking development for a sitting president. As the Post reports:
At this point in the last election cycle, Obama had received such large donations from more than 23,000 supporters, more than double the 11,000 who have given him that much this time. President George W. Bush had more than four times that number of big donations at this point in his reelection.
Democrats are doing their best to ‘spin’ the numbers by pointing out that the economy is down. However, in another sign that Team Obama is struggling to rake in money, the White House shot down a request from Congressional Democrats for $30 million to help with House and Senate races this year. While the assistance would have matched what Congressional Democrats received in the 2008 and 2010 election cycles, President Obama essentially told his colleagues, “You’re on your own this time.” Stay tuned and stay engaged…

Interesting that the major news networks have stopped naming the dead as they did during the Bush years.
