National Debt Crisis: Moms Leading A Charge with MomThink.org
Recently, you and your fellow countrymen went over 14 TRILLION dollars in Debt. Yes, you did. You, as a member of this Union, are responsible for that debt. Your only choice in paying it off or incurring more: your representatives in Washington. Are you voting? Are you writing them? Are you paying attention?
Want to get really sick? Watch it tick away HERE. Did you see that? In the bottom right-hand corner, based on the unfunded mandates (that is, promises that the government has made to the population to fund, subsidize or reimburse for a myriad of reasons) YOUR personal obligation is over a MILLION dollars. Better get to work.
May 26th 2010: The Day we hit 13 TRILLION dollars in debt. At that time, according to this the Debt clock:
Debt per citizen: $42,026
Debt per taxpayer: $117,982 *you DO recognize that not all of us can pay taxes, so the number is actually far more substantial than ‘per citizen’
Total interest due: $1.9 trillion
But, in 7 months, these numbers are but another calculation that might look nice. Because, since then, we’ve incurred another TRILLION DOLLARS in debt. It’s hard to know what that looks like. Here, you can try to wrap your mind about how much money that REALLY is:
Are you yawning? If I’m guessing, many of you plugged in enough to read this already know we are a country in crisis. You may even know the number in your memory. In fact, this is one issue where *most* of the country knows there is a wall. According to Gallup, Americans are savvy and want to address the debt as a basis for stimulating our economy.
So why then does this problem continue to spiral out of control? Why is it so hard to find a leader that will turn from easy and embrace the difficult? How many of you are sick and tired of hearing that the answer is varied and complicated?
I’m tired of it. So, I’m joining with a group of other concerned moms in Washington D.C. on January 11-13th. We’re coming together under the banner of Momthink.org. The national debt is the first issue of many that MomThink.org plans to bring to the forefront of moms’ minds. In the coming weeks and months, Momthink.org will identify and examine a variety of issues, from the economy to national security, that will directly affect the well-being of our children and grandchildren. The goal is to spark a national dialogue among mothers who think deeply and care passionately about passing on a better America to future generations.
Women, especially moms, are a huge voting bloc in the U.S. Maybe you’re not a mom. You should still care. All efforts to get moms engaged in this issue benefit us as whole. If you aren’t a mom, tell a mom. If you aren’t a mom, support the moms who will travel to Washington, DC, on January 11th and 12th, meeting with legislators and policy proponents who will plead the case on behalf of our children. Generational theft is at work and we must become the lampposts who shine a light on this dark corridor of instability.
Follow @Momthink.org; Friend them on Facebook; and wait for more information from both myself and @JennyErikson – all of us will need your help if we are to engage a new group of concerned citizens… we know that the efforts of many have ushered in change. This is a first, bright step in the right direction, perhaps bringing an issue of agreement to the forefront and implanting the idea of budget reduction to address the issue.
If we don’t, you may be looking at a scenario not different from the one Momthink.org produced here:

Keep fighting the good fight – and this is a good fight. If we don’t win, our children (grandchildren) face a dismal future.
