The Day Before

Today is exciting. I just can’t escape it. I’m home with the Little Teichs and we are doing what we do… creating new Mii’s on the Wii and clawing eachothers eyes out. Very normal. But, for this special day, our reading will include a short lesson on Martin Luther and Corretta Scott King. Jackson declared early, “you know if that Steeeewpid guy didn’t shoot Mr. King, he could still be alive.” Indeed.

Also, the excitement is looming for tomorrow’s festivities. I will not start with the cynicism or hurl objects at the television. I am embarrassed for the Ann Colter’s out there who wish to do so. Tomorrow we will witness a happy day which will begin a path. A path we can then scrutinize based on it’s actual projections, not just idle misgivings held by the person raging. Here’s just a few of my observations for tomorrow:

A. Mr. Obama – your speech should, for the first time, be more than glittering generalities. You are a fine speaker. Move it into the realm of talking directly.
B. Mrs. Obama – you can work an outfit. I’m sure you will pick appropriately. But, you are a woman with education and deep thinking. Find a way to be more than the dress.
C. Girls – enjoy. Hopefully your Daddy wrote your a letter which was really, truly, written for just you to thank you for your good behavior and fine manners.
D. People – If you choose to be there, act like ladies and gentlemen. You thrust yourself into the cold D.C. weather with more than a million other people. Protect yourself, eachother and the day.

I watched a choral group from Harlem sing, “America” on Good Morning America this morning. It was inspiring and touching. The next couple days will be full of moments to enjoy. So, do that, and after it is over we will talk about Obama’s Secretary of State pick, Hilary Clinton, and how she thumbs her nose at the rest of us.
